What we stand for


Sahaayta was established in 2013 with a vision to enhance the status, health and well-being of South-Asian community through holistic, confidential and culturally appropriate services.

Sahaayta is the delivery arm of South Asian Trust Inc. Primary focus for the Trust remains with the provision of client centred, culturally appropriate professional services to migrant and former refugee families. However, we have extended our services to over thirty ethnic communities including Maori, Pasifika and European.

Sucharita has worked in the social services sector for the past 11 years and has established Sahaayta counselling and social support in Counties Manukau in 2013.

She comes from a counselling background and is responsible for creating the model and providing oversight for the service delivery for Gandhi Nivas Programme which operates across three locations in Tamaki Makaurau, Auckland.

Sucharita comes from Hyderabad in Southern India and has migrated to New Zealand in 2001.

Sucharita is passionate about working with families, especially from migrant and refugee background. She is particularly interested in family counselling where she uses a holistic approach in her work with her clients.

Zoya comes from Mumbai In India. She arrived in New Zealand as a student in 2009. Zoya is a qualified counsellor with a Bachelors in Counselling and has worked in education and community settings.

She has been closely involved in establishing Sahaayta in 2013 and has since worked as a counsellor. In her current role she leads the team at Gandhi Nivas in Otahuhu and has been a part of the initiative since inception.

As a migrant, she has experienced challenges that new immigrants face due to migration. Zoya values how the counselling process empowers people and allows for a person's own resiliency to emerge and be built upon.

Zoya has been working with family harm for the past nine years. She is proactive and strongly believes that early intervention is the key to most social challenges the ethnic community faces today. She works with all ages and has a special interest in working with families. Zoya has graduated with her Bachelors of Counselling and is a Provisional Member of NZAC.

Kamalinder Kaur is a qualified counsellor with Diploma and Bachelor qualifications in counselling from New Zealand.

Kamalinder works in the field of family harm and is passionate about working with children and families.She is a Provisional member NZAC and works with a holistic approach.

Kamalinder moved to New Zealand in 2005 and calls Auckland her home away from home.She is married and lives in central Auckland.

Kamalinder has been with Sahaayta since the birth of the agency. She has previously volunteered with the agency and is currently working as a team leader with Sahaayta.

She has co facilitated Sahaara women's group, professional development groups and is a member of Children's counsellors.

She can speak Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and English.Kamalinder works with all age groups and also provides couples counselling.

When not working, she is out in the nature enjoying her walks in Cornwall park and loves to spend time with friends and family.
