What we stand for

OUR VISION


Sahaayta was established in 2013 with a vision to enhance the status, health and well-being of South-Asian community through holistic, confidential and culturally appropriate services.

Sahaayta is the delivery arm of South Asian Trust Inc. Primary focus for the Trust remains with the provision of client centred, culturally appropriate professional services to migrant and former refugee families. However, we have extended our services to over thirty ethnic communities including Maori, Pasifika and European.

Sucharita has worked in the social services sector since 2009 and has established Sahaayta counselling and social support in Counties Manukau in 2013.

She comes from a counselling background and is responsible for creating the model and providing oversight for the service delivery for Gandhi Nivas Programme which operates across three locations in Tamaki Makaurau, Auckland.

Sucharita comes from Hyderabad in Southern India and has migrated to New Zealand in 2001.

Sucharita is passionate about working with families, especially from migrant and refugee background. She is particularly interested in family counselling where she uses a holistic approach in her work with her clients.

Suman comes from Delhi In India. She was a practicing lawyer in Delhi and was registered with Delhi Bar Association. She arrived in New Zealand with family in 2008. Suman is a NZAC registered counsellor with PG Dip in Counselling ( Unitec). She has worked with and for the communities for 12 years in the Family harm sector.

Suman has been closely working with Sahaayta since 2013 in the family harm sector. She did her counselling placement in Sahaayta in 2015 and eventually became a part of it in 2019. In her current role she leads the team at Gandhi Nivas in Te Atatu.

Suman is passionate about working for social justice and values law and order of the land. She also values how counselling can help to process and manage the difficult situations of life e.g- Trauma , Grief , Family issues , Depression , Anxiety , Anger etc. She works with all ages and has a special interest in working with individuals and families

Kamalinder Kaur is a qualified counsellor with Diploma and Bachelor qualifications in counselling from New Zealand.

Kamalinder works in the field of family harm and is passionate about working with children and families.She is a Provisional member NZAC and works with a holistic approach.

Kamalinder moved to New Zealand in 2005 and calls Auckland her home away from home.She is married and lives in central Auckland.

Kamalinder has been with Sahaayta since the birth of the agency. She has previously volunteered with the agency and is currently working as a team leader with Sahaayta.

She has co facilitated Sahaara women's group, professional development groups and is a member of Children's counsellors.

Mohit comes from Himachal Pradesh in India. He moved to New Zealand in 2013 as a student at the University of Auckland. Mohit has a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from India and has completed Post Graduate Diploma in Public health from University of Auckland.

Mohit has been with Sahaayta since 2018 and is currently leading the Team at Gandhi Nivas Otahuhu.

Mohit has experience in working for the Disability sector including Traumatic Brain Injury and Mental health. He has acute awareness of the unique challenges that are faced by the migrant community in New Zealand.

Mohit has been working in Family harm space since 2018. He believes in a holistic approach in working with his clients and families. He is trained in group facilitation and has extensive experience in providing social and emotional support to families that he has reached out to, over the years.
